Keke Palmer Thanks Tyler Perry for Early Career Financial Boost.
The actress expresses gratitude to the ‘Madea’s Family Reunion’ creator for giving her extra financial support to help her family.
On the July 23 episode of “Keke Palmer’s Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast, the 30-year-old actress directly thanked her guest, filmmaker Tyler Perry, for his support during a difficult period.
Palmer, who started her career as a child actress, found “Madea’s Family Reunion” to be an invaluable experience in multiple ways.
“I thank you so much for this,” she said. “Whatever the movie did, you gave me extra money on the backend, and that’s huge. I want to highlight that because it’s not something people often do, especially early in my career when I wasn’t a big name. It wasn’t my birthright, but it happened with that movie, and its success, along with the extra money, really helped my family and allowed me to stay in California after moving from Chicago.”
“I mean, we had nothing, and for you to do that was truly amazing. I just wanted to mention it because I never forgot it.”
In 2006, “Madea’s Family Reunion” topped the box office during its debut weekend, earning around $30.25 million, according to The Associated Press. Palmer played Nikki, a rebellious runaway who Madea is court-ordered to look after. Box Office Mojo reported the film grossed over $63 million on a $6 million budget.
These days, money is no issue for Palmer. The multimedia talent has started producing her own projects and launched her own digital television network, KeyTV. Much like Perry, she stars in and produces content for her viewers. In a touching turn of events, Palmer is now the one signing checks and supporting up-and-coming actors and singers in the industry.
