Gayle King Discloses: A Prospective Partner Asked Her for $4,000, Resulting in Her Waning Interest.
Is it appropriate to request child support from your partner after just two months of dating?

Gayle King opens up about her dating experiences, shedding light on the relatability of love challenges that many of us face, despite her mostly private love life.
Recently, the celebrated CBS This Morning figure switched roles and was interviewed by The Pivot hosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor. During their discussion, she delved into a range of topics, from her enduring friendship with Oprah Winfrey and her career to her love for sports and her family life. Gayle also shared anecdotes about her post-divorce dating experiences and her thoughts on how some men may find her ‘intimidating.’
While conversing with the hosts, Gayle expressed her disagreement with being perceived as an intimidating individual, but she acknowledged the source of this perception.
“Someone once told me, ‘Gayle, take a look at our shoes.’ So, I examined my shoes. What could be wrong with them? ‘Inspect your bag, your coat. You’re friends with Oprah. A guy might look at that and think, ‘I can’t measure up to that.’ But my perspective is that it’s not about competition. It isn’t. I’m not seeking someone to compete with. I’m looking for someone with a sense of humor, who’s genuinely secure and not daunted by all of this. I want someone who sees me for who I am,” Gayle remarked while seated in a peach long-sleeve dress with ribbing.
Channing posed a question about the difficulties Gayle encounters in the dating world, considering her financial status, public persona, and celebrity. Gayle, who hails from Maryland, hasn’t been involved in a high-profile relationship since her divorce in 1993.
Gayle was formerly wed to Bill Bumpus, who held the position of Connecticut assistant attorney general. They shared two children, whom Gayle fondly mentions on The Pivot – a daughter named Kirby and a son named William Jr.
Gayle King shared that she became disinterested in a man when he made a request for $4,000.

Despite her divorce, the 69-year-old maintains optimism regarding finding her lifelong love and expresses a preference for men of color. During the interview, Gayle also recounted her experiences in the dating world, with one story in particular involving a man she was genuinely enthusiastic about. After dating for a span of two months, the anchor revealed that he requested $4,000 from her.
I was like, Oh God,” Gayle exclaimed, her hand covering her face, as she shared. (She also humorously mentioned that her close friend Oprah teased her, saying she would have “felt better” if he had asked for $40,000.)
Regrettably, Gayle’s enthusiasm waned following his request. She expressed her disappointment, saying, “I was so disheartened because this was someone who was earning a six-figure income, successful.” When I asked, ‘Could you tell me what it’s for?’ He responded, ‘It’s for child support and a furniture payment.'”
Gayle went on to reveal that she wrote a check for the requested amount, which her potential partner eventually repaid. Nevertheless, the excitement had dissipated. While still navigating the dating scene, Gayle’s criteria for a partner include having a sense of humor, proper grammar, and being someone she can take both to the White House and to a barbecue.
