Michelle Yeoh’s Explanation for Passing Emma Stone’s Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence Takes Center Stage in Entertainment News.

Michelle Yeoh shared a heartwarming explanation for her action of passing Emma Stone’s Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence at the 96th Academy Awards.

During the ceremony on Sunday, March 10, Yeoh, 61, joined Lawrence, 33, Sally Field, Charlize Theron, and Jessica Lange on stage to present the Best Actress award. Upon announcing Stone, 35, as the winner, Yeoh sparked confusion by swiftly passing the trophy to Lawrence, who then handed it to Stone.

I wanted to cherish that wonderful moment of passing the Oscar to you alongside your dear friend Jennifer!!” Yeoh expressed on Instagram on Monday, March 11, alongside a series of photos from the event. “She reminded me of my beloved Jamie Lee Curtis ♥️✨.” (Yeoh and Curtis both starred in Everything Everywhere All at Once, earning the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Oscars, respectively, in 2023.)

Yeoh went on to commend Stone and Lawrence for their enduring friendship, noting that the two are “always there for each other!! 😘😘😘.” She concluded with, “Congratulations Emma!!

All the women joining Yeoh on stage had previously been honored with the Best Actress award. Lawrence clinched the title in 2013 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. Field secured victory twice, first in 1979 for Norma Rae and then in 1984 for Places in the Heart, while Lange triumphed in 1995 for Blue Sky. Theron claimed the accolade in 2004 for her portrayal in Monster.

As for Stone, her triumph came after contending against Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon, Annette Bening in NYAD, Carey Mulligan in Maestro, and Sandra Hüller in Anatomy of a Fall. She clinched the award for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos‘ Poor Things, marking her second win after her initial victory for 2017’s La La Land. (Stone has also garnered nominations for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Birdman in 2015 and The Favourite in 2019, and was additionally nominated for Best Picture this year for her producer role in Poor Things.)

Stone began her acceptance speech by expressing gratitude to her fellow nominees for Best Actress. “This is truly overwhelming. My voice is a bit strained, but whatever,” she said. “To the women in this category, you are all phenomenal. Sandra, Annette, Carey, Lily, I share this with you,” she added, acknowledging Gladstone, who was also a standout of the evening. “I am profoundly honored to share this with every member of the cast and every individual who contributed their passion to the creation of this film. Thank you for the invaluable gift of portraying Bella Baxter.”

Stone also paused to express her gratitude to her family, which includes her husband Dave McCary and their daughter Louise Jean, for their unwavering support throughout the years.

Addressing them through tears, she said, “To my mom, my brother Spencer, my dad, and my husband, I love you all deeply. And above all, to my daughter, who will be turning 3 in three days and has brought vibrant color to our lives. I love you more than the entire sky, my darling.”
