Pioneering Black women were celebrated at the 2024 Women In Harmony luncheon.

The National Urban League honored the accomplishments of four influential Black women at their Women in Harmony luncheon during the Essence Festival of Culture. Now in its fifth year, the event recognized Faith Jenkins, Tracey Edmonds, Bevy Smith, and Lisa Price for their significant community contributions. Rhonda Spears Bell, NUL’s chief marketing officer, highlighted the importance of creating “an experience for Black women across the globe,” according to The Associated Press. She described the Essence Festival as “the perfect backdrop” for this celebration, referring to it as “the mecca for Black women.”

The Women in Harmony luncheon highlighted a range of perspectives from the honorees. NUL shared key moments from the event featuring these women on its Instagram page. Smith delivered an inspiring message at the event, focusing on self-acceptance and finding a sense of belonging.

“I belong in these spaces,” she asserted, acknowledging her mother for nurturing her confidence as a curvy, dark-skinned woman. Price, the founder of Carol’s Daughter, urged support for local businesses in Louisiana.

She reflected on her path from a small booth owner to becoming a prominent sponsor at the Essence Festival.

“I stroll through the marketplace every year… because I once stood in their shoes,” Price revealed.

Jenkins discussed the importance of women empowering one another.

“…Women in harmony means each of us is making an individual impact while also contributing collectively,” she elaborated on the magenta carpet. Edmonds echoed this sentiment, portraying the event as a tribute to sisterhood and shared empowerment.

Marc H. Morial, president of the National Urban League, emphasized the significance of recognizing the achievements of Black women across diverse fields. The Women in Harmony luncheon aimed to celebrate diversity within the Black female community, encompassing various ages, professions, and backgrounds. Bell expanded on the event’s theme, explaining that it symbolizes unity, strength, and purpose.

“Women are truly foundational to everything we accomplish,” she asserted, underscoring the power of united efforts.
