Girl Scouts Push Back Against Rumors of Toxic Cookies in New Lawsuit.
The Girl Scouts reassures customers that the chemicals in their cookies are naturally found.

The Girl Scouts of America is addressing rumors about the safety of its cookies following a class-action lawsuit. The controversy started after a nationwide recall of Las Ollas Botana Mix Snacks due to “undisclosed” allergens, which mistakenly connected the Girl Scouts to the toxic cookie issue. In response, the organization released a statement assuring customers that their products are safe.
ABC reported that the anonymous plaintiff filed the lawsuit after studies by Moms Across America and GMO Science, seeking $5 million in damages.
While confirming that its cookies contain “certain levels of glyphosate and heavy metals,” GSUSA highlighted its adherence to FDA safety standards.
“We want to clarify—there is no recall on Girl Scout Cookies. Our licensed bakers follow all FDA food safety regulations, and our cookies meet rigorous quality standards,” the statement said.
The organization also pointed out that glyphosate and heavy metals are naturally present in the environment, and the levels in its products align with these natural occurrences.
“Glyphosate is commonly used in agriculture following EPA standards and is found throughout the food chain. Trace amounts of glyphosate can be detected in fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals, baked goods, and other food and drink products,” the statement explained.
Backing for Girl Scouts
While some consumers have embraced the rumors and filed lawsuits, the Girl Scouts continue to emphasize the positive aspects of their organization. On National Girl Scouts Day, other members of the nationwide group are also showing their support.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley highlighted the organization’s strengths in a post on X, commending its leadership qualities.
Sportscaster Robin Roberts also marked the occasion, proudly calling herself a “card-carrying lifetime member” in a post on X.
“We’re celebrating #NationalGirlScoutDay all morning long in Times Square with our ‘Great Girl Scout Takeover’! We’re showcasing Girl Scouts from across the country who are giving back to their communities and selling those delicious cookies! As a card-carrying lifetime member myself, I’m thrilled about this morning!”
Unfortunately, the Boy Scouts of America, the sibling organization, has been involved in several lawsuits alleging inappropriate behavior. Meanwhile, the Girl Scouts continue to focus on promoting social programs designed to develop life skills.
