Chesley Maddox-Dorsey is named the 2025 ‘Woman of Influence’ by the U.S. Black Chambers.

Maddox-Dorsey, CEO of American Urban Radio Networks, was among the 50 honorees.

Chesley Maddox-Dorsey, CEO of American Urban Radio Networks—the largest Black woman-owned radio network in the U.S.—has been recognized as one of the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce’s Power 50 Women of Influence, according to Radio Online.

Maddox-Dorsey started her career as a banker specializing in the radio industry before transitioning into entrepreneurship, where she spearheaded significant acquisitions. The founding of A Wonder Media Company solidified her role as a pivotal figure in Black media ownership.

In 2018, Maddox-Dorsey acquired American Urban Radio Networks (AURN) and Superadio Network, a leading syndicator of audio content. She later became a shareholder in Blackstar Communications and is currently the president and CEO of Access 1 Communications, which owns over two dozen radio affiliates.

“The opportunity to lead the buyout of two renowned but underdeveloped B2B brands was too good to pass up,” she shared. “I was excited about the potential to bring fresh ideas and talent to AURN, which had lost its former prominence. With Superadio and AURN’s distribution network, we had a solid foundation.”

A graduate of Oberlin College, Maddox-Dorsey is a strong advocate for maintaining Black media spaces. Her acquisitions focus on ensuring Black audiences remain informed and engaged across various platforms.

“Media is an essential part of our nation’s infrastructure, even as its elements continue to evolve,” she stated. “Broadcasting’s influence within the African American community remains strong, complementing streaming, podcasting, and other digital media formats.”

“Focus on collecting talent as you build your team and community,” she advised entrepreneurs and hiring managers. “You are accountable for the success of those who work for you, so approach it with seriousness and intention.”
