Creator Called Out for Claiming “Hood Prom” Exists Because Black Girls Won’t Get Married.

The TikToker was criticized by other creators for making racist and unfounded claims.
A TikToker was called out by the Black community over racist assumptions tied to “hood prom.”
The creator, known as Sasha, claimed Black girls embrace elaborate “hood prom” looks because they have fewer chances of having a wedding. Identifying as a conservative, she shared the unfounded remarks on the video platform. Part of her commentary was later reposted by a Black woman who criticized the discriminatory rhetoric.
“It’s prom season, which means one thing—‘hood prom,’” the content creator said. “What many people fail to recognize is that ‘hood prom’ and so-called baby mama culture, in my view, go hand in hand.”
The TikToker then expanded on her controversial theory, outlining what she believed were connections between “hood prom” and “baby mama culture.”
She continued, “You can’t have hood prom or the baby shower stuff or anything like that without baby mama culture.”
As she attempted to defend her argument, members of the Black community quickly pushed back against her claims.
A critic responded, “You know what I love about this app? When people come on here and make fools of themselves…what is a ‘hood prom’?” She added, “Year after year, y’all keep targeting a group of people who pay you no mind.”
After arguing the TikToker was too invested in Black people’s business, the critic went on to point out which demographic helped popularize the Teen Mom franchise and the culture surrounding it.
“Y’all put baby mama culture at the forefront with the Teen Mom series. Hands down,” she continued.
As the TikToker criticized the idea of “hood prom,” others also weighed in on what they saw as the hypocrisy behind discussions of teenage motherhood.
“That was my first thought,” another commenter added. “Like didn’t they have a show about pregnant white teens????”
Other critics called out Sasha and demanded an apology for what they described as racist remarks. However, the conservative content creator refused to walk back her statements, instead doubling down on claims that “hood prom” exists and aligns with what she called “baby mama culture,” including her assertion that the Black community does not prioritize fathers in the home.
Black women, however, pushed back forcefully, countering those claims by sharing photos of their weddings and successful marriages. As the TikToker continued commenting on other communities, many made clear her assertions would not go unchallenged.
