Selena Gomez Hints at Transitioning from Singing to Acting and Discusses Her Future in Music.

Selena Gomez’s latest album, “Revelación,” made its debut in 2021. Prior to this, she released solo albums, including “Stars Dance” in 2013, “Revival” in 2015, and “Rare” in 2020. The founder of Rare Beauty has hinted at the possibility of taking a break from her music career. According to Page Six, Gomez expressed her intention to shift her focus towards acting during a recent appearance on the SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. The “Single Soon” artist mentioned, “I feel like there’s another album in me, but I would probably lean towards pursuing acting.”

“I began to really enjoy making music, and touring was a blast. However, during that time, I was also juggling my TV show ‘Wizards,’ and it was all quite enjoyable, so I just kept going. As I’ve grown older, though, I’ve started to yearn for something more stable,” she confided to the hosts. Discussing the toll her singing career took on her mental health, the “Ice Cream” songstress disclosed, “There was a point where I checked into a mental health facility and had to cancel one of my tours due to the overwhelming workload. It became too much because I genuinely love to work, and it serves as a distraction from negativity.” Responding to the hosts’ compliments about her musical talent, Gomez added, “You’re absolutely right, but eventually, I’ll want to slow down because I’m feeling tired.”

According to Deadline, the actress from “Only Murders in the Building” also talked about how her successful Disney Channel show, “Wizards of Waverly Place,” played a pivotal role in sparking her interest in music. She explained, “Disney, without a doubt, is a well-oiled machine that, in a sense, encouraged me to learn how to sing, especially for performing the theme song of a show. They excel in molding individuals into a complete package, emphasizing the importance of being a triple threat.”

Additionally, she revealed that the entertainment company reached out to her about creating an album following her recording of the theme song for the renowned Disney series, and she thought it would be an enjoyable endeavor. “Initially, my ambition was to pursue acting; I didn’t have plans to become a full-time singer. However, that interest transformed into something more,” she commented. Gomez went on to say, “I may not consider myself the finest vocalist, but I have a knack for storytelling, and I genuinely relish crafting songs.”

Aside from releasing the upbeat pop track “Single Soon” as the lead single from her latest album, Selena Gomez shared with Vogue Mexico that the upcoming record will feature exclusively “upbeat” songs. She also noted that “Calm Down,” a track that went triple platinum, earned a place among the top 10 songs of 2023, which she co-won with Afrobeats artist Rema at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, as reported by Variety. The entire Smartless podcast episode will be available on January 8th, but Wonder+ subscribers can access it now.
