Brilliant and Fearless: Black Women Dominate Daytime Talk Shows.

Every day, Tamron Hall, Sherri Shepherd, Jennifer Hudson, and Sheryl Underwood bring joy, affection, and laughter into our lives.

In the current landscape, the array of accomplished Black women at the forefront of daytime television is a remarkable abundance. Let’s spotlight some of our cherished hosts who consistently elevate the standard, captivating and delighting us on the small screen daily.

Tamron Hall

We begin our lineup of daytime stars with the one and only Tamron Hall. Long before her current Emmy Award-winning self-titled series, Hall established herself as an esteemed broadcast journalist, making her mark on MSNBC with “NewsNation with Tamron Hall” and NBC’s “Today” show.

Since 2019, Hall has been our daily companion on her eponymous show, “Tamron Hall.” This program beautifully encapsulates Hall’s strengths: delivering impactful stories, conducting insightful interviews, and uplifting her audience with heartwarming content. In an interview with The Wrap, she discussed her transition from hard-hitting news to more light-hearted daytime content, stating, “As a news person, there’s often this perception that you must be serious and lack a sense of humor. I hope I’ve debunked that notion with our show.”

Sherri Shepherd

Although her latest series, “Sherri,” is the new addition to the daytime lineup (officially premiering in 2022), Shepherd is a familiar face in the world of daytime television. The comedian, actress, and broadcaster first ventured into daytime talk shows in 2007 when she became a part of “The View.” For seven years, Shepherd was a vibrant presence on ABC’s popular talk show, engaging in conversations and debates alongside Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Now, Shepherd has stepped into the spotlight with her own show. Infused with her trademark comedic flair, the program features Shepherd sharing her insights on trending topics, conducting interviews with major celebrities, and participating in enjoyable, often side-splitting segments. Just take a look at her recent Beyoncé-inspired Halloween episode to witness the full range of entertainment Shepherd brings to her series.

Jennifer Hudson
EGOT achiever Jennifer Hudson is yet another beloved daytime talk show host who captivates our attention. With her warm and inviting demeanor, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” treats viewers to captivating interviews featuring her inspirations, colleagues, and emerging talents who view the “Dreamgirls” star as a role model.

In her inaugural season alone, Hudson had the privilege of interviewing esteemed guests like Toni Braxton, Kelly Rowland, Chance the Rapper, Marlon Wayans, and many others. Jennifer Hudson’s contributions to music, the silver screen, and daytime television were recognized at the 2022 theGrio Awards, where she received the Trailblazer Icon Award.

Sheryl Underwood

Comedian, actress, and host Sheryl Underwood has been gracing “The Talk” with her talents since 2011, earning her the distinction of being the longest-running co-host on this beloved daytime panel show. Throughout the years, she has shared the stage with various co-hosts, including Julie Chen Moonves, Holly Robinson Peete, Aisha Tyler, Eve, and others, infusing her hosting duties with personal anecdotes, sharp humor, and undeniable charm.

This year, Underwood is set to return as the host of the “Byron Allen Presents theGrio Awards,” where she will be joined by fellow comedian Roy Wood Jr. You can catch a glimpse of last year’s red carpet event in the clip below, where Underwood, alongside co-host Taye Diggs, discussed the celebration of Black excellence, a theme presented by Byron Allen, the founder/chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group, which owns theGrio.
