In her forthcoming memoir titled “The Woman in Me,” Britney Spears, the iconic pop sensation, has chosen to share a deeply personal and long-guarded secret. According to PEOPLE, the memoir reveals that during her relationship with Justin Timberlake, she became pregnant with his child but ultimately made the difficult decision to have an abortion.

In the memoir, which is set to be released on October 24 through Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Spears reflects on this emotional chapter of her life. At the time of the unexpected pregnancy, Spears was deeply in love with Timberlake and had always envisioned a future together, which included starting a family. However, the pregnancy came as a surprise and altered their plans.

Spears, now 41 years old, writes, “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.” She further reveals that Timberlake did not share the same sentiment about the pregnancy, expressing concerns about their readiness to become parents and their age.

Justin Timberlake’s representative has not yet responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment regarding this revelation.

In her memoir, Spears expresses her inner conflict over the abortion decision, stating, “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.” The emotional toll of this experience still resonates with her, as she describes it as “one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”

Britney Spears’ memoir is highly anticipated, coming nearly two years after the termination of her court-ordered conservatorship, which had been in place for 13 years. Her public testimony in June 2021 played a pivotal role in the decision to end the conservatorship in November 2021.

According to a press release from Gallery Books, the memoir promises to unveil Spears’ incredible journey and the strength that has made her one of the greatest performers in pop music history. It is a testament to the enduring power of music, love, and the importance of a woman sharing her own story on her own terms. Spears’ memoir is set to offer readers a candid and intimate glimpse into her life and experiences, including the pain and challenges she has faced, all in her own words.
