Can we talk about that Steve Harvey moment? A pageant expert is seeking an explanation for the Miss Universe Top 5 graphics mix-up.

On Monday, a pageant specialist urged Miss Universe El Salvador, the host of the 72nd edition of the beauty pageant, to provide an explanation for their deleted post. The post had originally featured a graphic including Philippine representative Michelle Dee in the Top 5, but it was swiftly removed and replaced with an image featuring Thailand’s Anntonia Porsild, who ultimately secured the first runner-up position. This move has raised questions and concerns within the pageant community.

“I strongly hope that they will issue an official statement, an apology, or some form of explanation to clarify this situation because it’s causing a lot of confusion for everyone… What’s happening here? It’s reminiscent of the Steve Harvey moment back in 2015,” remarked pageant authority Adam Genato during an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source. Genato was alluding to the infamous crowning incident in 2015 when Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Colombia’s Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner instead of the Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach.

“Perhaps their intention during the finals night was to provide real-time updates on the unfolding pageant, but unfortunately, it appears they made a genuine mistake. In their defense, they did remove the post shortly after, but by then, it had already gone viral,” he noted.

In an effort to clarify the graphics mix-up, Genato mentioned that he personally reached out to the Miss Universe organization’s press team following the coronation, but he has not received a response as of yet.

“For now, I’m inclined to believe it was an honest mistake on their part,” he remarked.

As of now, the Miss Universe organization has not issued a statement regarding the matter.

Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios secured the title of Miss Universe 2023, marking a historic win as the first representative from her country to achieve this honor.
