Dr. Jacqueline Copeland Steps Back—New Leaders Shine at Black Philanthropy Month.

Dr. Copeland is handing over leadership to BackBlack Founder Floyd Jones, ushering in a new era for Black Philanthropy Month.

Dr. Jacqueline “Bouvier” Copeland, founder of Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), is stepping down as leader and chairwoman of the global coalition she established in 2011, passing the torch to BackBlack Movement Founder Floyd Jones.

As BPM’s International Chair Emerita, Copeland will continue supporting the international movement, which has engaged over 100 million people across 60 countries to highlight global Black philanthropy and push for funding equity. “BPM has been a labor of love, driven by my passion to celebrate Black giving as a cornerstone of our identity, unity, and shared financial power,” Copeland shared in a press release.

Dr. Jacqueline Copeland is passing the torch to Floyd Jones, a dedicated advocate for Black Diaspora funding equity, as Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) steps into its next chapter. Supported by a Global Leadership Council of Black philanthropy leaders and guided by the Global Black Funding Equity Principles, Jones represents the next generation poised to elevate BPM as a cultural landmark. “With Floyd’s leadership and our Global Council’s support, BPM is ready to become an even stronger force for funding equity and economic justice,” Copeland shared. Jones brings extensive experience to the role, having raised over $2 million for 1,000 Black-led organizations, creating vital funding pipelines, and amplifying social impact.

Dr. Copeland is excited to see BPM’s vibrant philanthropic and creative economy thrive with Afro-descendant communities and their allies. “It’s a tremendous honor to build on the incredible legacy Dr. Copeland has established for Black Philanthropy Month over the past two decades,” shared Floyd Jones, the new BPM leader. Under Jones’ leadership, BPM will continue to collaborate with diverse leaders, sponsors, and advisors, while expanding initiatives like the Global Black Funding Equity Pledge and survey to empower Black communities worldwide.

As she steps down, the visionary founder expresses gratitude to the leaders and funders who have contributed to Black Philanthropy Month’s success, including its annual national summit held each August.
