The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said detectives arrested the parents of a young boy after a lethal combination of drugs were found in his system.

Detectives said at approximately 3:03 p.m. on Sept. 24, 2022, deputies responded to a home on 218 S.W. Third St. in Deerfield Beach. Upon arrival, deputies found a child, 1-year-old Zaire Cenatus, in medical distress.

First responders said they worked quickly to bring the young child to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The BSO Homicide and Crime Scene unit investigators said that the child’s parents, Shaneka Dean, 33, and Wendy Previl, 30, failed to provide the care, supervision and services necessary for 1-year-old boy. Investigators said Zaire died from a lethal intoxication of drugs, including fentanyl.

The sheriff’s office said Dean and Previl were arrested on Monday, Jan. 9 for aggravated manslaughter of a child and possession of fentanyl. Dean bonded out of jail on Tuesday morning, but Previl was held on a $180,000 bond.
