Robert Wayne Lee, who went by the online pseudonym “Boobac Shakur,” tragically lost his life on Friday night following a confrontation with two teenagers he had wrongly accused of being sexual predators. Lee, a 40-year-old resident of Michigan, had taken on a self-appointed role reminiscent of the TV show “To Catch a Predator.” The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Lee posed as a 15-year-old girl online to entice and expose individuals he suspected of being pedophiles.

Law enforcement acknowledged that Lee’s solitary mission had resulted in the apprehension and prosecution of several men involved in child exploitation. Remarkably, his online activities had even led to the arrest of a former police officer. Boasting nearly 53,000 followers on Instagram, his account featured numerous videos in which he confronted suspected child predators. Regrettably, the police pointed out that he had also misidentified individuals as sexual predators on occasion.

The fatal incident transpired when Lee confronted two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, at a restaurant in Pontiac, Michigan. He accused one of them of being a pedophile, and tensions escalated to the point where Lee physically assaulted the 18-year-old, who reportedly brandished a knife in response. The other teenager allegedly produced a firearm and shot Lee multiple times before both fled the scene. Lee was subsequently rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

While the identities of the teenagers have not been disclosed publicly, both have been apprehended.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard commented on the tragic incident, saying, “While we certainly understand his desire to hold child predators accountable, many times well-intentioned individuals who engage in this don’t know the standard of evidence required for convictions and often underestimate the potential for violence when confronting a suspected predator.”

Lee’s family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover the expenses of his funeral and provide assistance to his surviving daughter. The campaign description reads, “In the tight-knit community, we were fortunate to have a beacon of light named Robert Lee, a true hometown hero. Robert dedicated his life to protecting the innocence of our children from those with malicious intentions. Through his courageous efforts, he successfully exposed 132 predators who sought to harm our community’s youth.”
