Two teenagers who overdosed on Benadryl they took from a nurse’s station at a school in Tennessee have died, police said on Thursday.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a CPR in progress call at Oak Plains Academy in Ashland City on Wednesday around 9 a.m.

Police said they arrived to find two 15-year-old teenage girls unconscious and unresponsive. They were both transported to medical facilities.

One of the girls was pronounced dead at Sango Emergency Room, and the other was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. The second girl passed died on Wednesday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said investigators learned the two girls made their way through the bottom part of a “dutch” style door in the nurse’s station at the school on Tuesday and retrieved a bottle and several blister packs of Benadryl, an over-the-counter medication.

During the night and into the following morning, the girls took an undetermined amount of what is believed to be Benadryl. When the girls were in class the following morning, they both became sick and fell unconscious. Oak Plains staff helped the girls until emergency services arrived.

The families of both teenagers have been notified of the incident.

Authorities said the investigation is still active and ongoing.
