Christina Applegate, an actress who won an Emmy Award and disclosed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, received a standing ovation during the Emmy Awards on Monday night.
Applegate had the honor of being the opening presenter for the evening. As she took the stage to present the award, the “Dead to Me” and “Married with Children” star relied on a cane for support.
She humorously quipped, “You’re absolutely embarrassing me by getting up while I’m sitting,” in a playful reference to her disability, adding, “No worries, my body isn’t a result of Ozempic.”
Applegate took the stage to present the award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.
She expressed her gratitude, saying, “It’s been a privilege to portray humorous, imperfect, multi-dimensional characters like the talented women nominated for the supporting actress in a comedy series category.
In a Vanity Fair interview conducted the previous year, Applegate discussed her experience of coping with multiple sclerosis. She mentioned the possibility of discontinuing her on-camera acting career because of the difficulties posed by the condition.
