Teen who drove SIX HOURS for her dream prom dress is stunned when shop owner gifts her the $700 gown: ‘The universe was telling me, just give her the dress’

  • Elyse Monroe, 18, was gifted her prom dress for free by generous Juicy Body Goddess store owner Summer Lucille
  • Monroe drove six hours with her family to find the perfect plus-size prom dress with a budget of $400
  • Lucille’s generosity stemmed from her own horrific prom night experience with an unflattering dress

A teenager drove six hours to shop for her plus-size senior prom dress and was stunned when she was gifted the $700 gown from the store owner.

Elyse Monroe, 18, met with North Carolina boutique owner Summer Lucille to find her dream dress at Juicy Body Goddess.

Monroe, who drove from Manteo to Charlotte, found Lucille’s store in TikTok videos featuring the stylist’s live-streamed consultations.

The teenager had a $400 budget to splurge on a dress, but it wasn’t enough for the one she felt the most beautiful in.

‘Don’t worry about the budget, we’ll figure it out,’ Lucille told Manroe, according to People.

The viral video of Monroe shopping has garnered more than 13.6 million views as TikTokers walked through the teenager’s shopping journey from start to finish as she tried on a sparkling one-shoulder strap black dress to a bunt orange shade gown until she found the one.

Lucille recalled Monroe being shy at the start of the consultation and her family worried about finding a dress within their budget.

Monroe’s taste in style was slightly more expensive than $400 but Lucille kept reassuring her employees that ‘It’ll work itself out,’ she told People.

The store owner streamed Monroe’s consultation on social media and a generous spectator asked if they could donate $200 to the teenager’s dress.

‘At that moment, I knew that was the universe telling me, just give her the dress,’ Lucille told the news outlet.

Lucille dodged the family’s questions about how much dresses would cost them and focused on finding Monroe the one that made her feel beautiful.

‘Well, we’ll worry about the price when we get to the register,’ Lucille told the family.

In the TikTok video, Monroe tried on three different dresses but was the most confident in a purple off-the-shoulder corset-style gown.

‘I love that on you! It is so beautiful,’ Lucille can be heard saying in the video background.

‘Disney princess,’ Lucille added as Monroe quickly swirled.

The nearly minute-long video then showed the family at the cash register with the purple dress.

‘So this dress is $700,’ Lucille said before quickly adding, ‘But it’s free. We’re giving it to you.’

The emotional ending showed Monroe in awe as her family became teary-eyed while embracing one another.

Making prom special for teenagers has a special place in Lucille’s heart. She recalled her own prom night which was ‘horrific.’

‘I had a horrific time at prom. I couldn’t find nothing. The dress I wore was horrific. It was a very sad time in my life,’ Lucille told the news outlet. ‘So me dressing these girls, it’s healing.’

Little did Lucille know that her act of kindness would touch the hearts of many others.

‘That video did something because a lot of people, not just chubby girls, but a lot of people have really bad memories from prom, from high school,’ she said.

Within a few days of posting the video over the weekend, about $12,000 have been donated by TikTokers wanting to help other girls feel their best at prom.
