Simone Biles shines as Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year.
Another day, another well-deserved honor for the gymnastics legend.

Gymnast Simone Biles has earned another incredible achievement to her already impressive list. The 11-time Olympic medalist was named Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year on January 2.
“Honestly, it’s such a huge honor,” Biles, 27, shared with Good Morning America. “I’m aware of the legends who’ve received this honor before, so keeping gymnastics in the spotlight is truly exciting.”
“I know many people get excited about gymnastics during the Olympic year and have followed my journey, but I was still really surprised.”
“Simone Biles is Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year because she won gold, then more gold, and more again; because she transformed her sport and the conversations around athletes; and because she continues to speak up on issues that matter to her,” the magazine explained.
“And perhaps most importantly, because after questioning whether she was about to face the darkest time of her career, she took a deep breath, saluted the judges, and sprinted forward.”
Biles will receive her award on January 7 at a ceremony hosted by Keegan-Michael Key at Wynn in Las Vegas.
The iconic gymnast’s 2024 was marked by an outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics, where she added four more medals to her impressive collection—three golds and one silver—in team, all-around, vault, and floor exercise events.
According to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Biles is currently tied for the second-most decorated female gymnast in Olympic history, with 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals.
Deion Sanders received the honor from SI last year.
