“Legally Blonde” Rumored for TV Adaptation: Fans Buzzing with Endorphins!

Exciting news from Amazon Prime Video: They’re in the early stages of developing a “Legally Blonde” TV series, featuring Reese Witherspoon! Variety reports that this upcoming series, crafted in the iconic “Legally Blonde” universe, is a collaboration between Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and the creative duo Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who are on board to pen the scripts.

Schwartz and Savage, leading their production company Fake Empire, are renowned for helming beloved teen dramedies like “The O.C.,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Marvel’s Runaways.” More information on the upcoming series inspired by “Legally Blonde” remains under wraps.

“Legally Blonde” skyrocketed to pop culture fame with its 2001 debut, featuring Reese Witherspoon as the iconic Elle Woods, a sorority girl who heads to Harvard Law School to prove her ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III (played by Matthew Davis) wrong. Elle evolves from seeking Warner’s approval to excelling at Harvard, with notable performances by Luke Wilson, Jennifer Coolidge, and Selma Blair. The movie’s success led to sequels and adaptations, including “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” in 2003 and a 2007 Broadway musical with Laura Bell Bundy as Elle, reflecting its lasting impact.

Reese Witherspoon also produced “Legally Blondes,” a direct-to-DVD sequel featuring Milly and Becky Rosso as Elle’s British cousins, charting their journey through high school in Los Angeles. Additionally, Witherspoon is gearing up for a comeback as Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde 3,” with the script penned by her close collaborator, Mindy Kaling. Details about the film, including the original cast’s involvement, remain scarce.

Luke Wilson, who portrayed Emmett, Elle’s husband in the sequel, told Us Weekly in December 2020 that he’s open to returning for the new “Legally Blonde” project, although he’s as in the dark as anyone else about the details. He’s aware of the script being developed but mentioned that specifics are closely guarded. Wilson, aged 52, expressed his fondness for working with Witherspoon on the previous films, highlighting the unique satisfaction that comes from creating a film that not only succeeds but also resonates across generations and maintains enduring popularity.
