Nicki Minaj throws shade at Atlantic Records layoffs, joking, “UPS is hiring!”
Atlantic Records just announced massive job cuts, and Nicki Minaj wasted no time throwing shade at Cardi B’s label. After Warner Music’s CEO warned staff about the layoffs, Nicki took to X with a sharp response, adding fuel to the fire in true Nicki fashion.
Nicki invited the newly jobless workers to her label in a taunting post … “Dear fired executives & A&R’s: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring. Also, feel free to submit your resumes for a job @ #HeavyOnIt” … and included a Phaedra Parks GIF to tack on the shade!!!
Nicki twisted the knife further in another post, saying, “They’ve been wishing for empty arenas so bad. Being obsessed with me while your friends are getting fired is nasty work.”
It’s been a tough week for Warner Music. Veteran executive Kevin Liles unexpectedly resigned, and with new Atlantic CEO Elliot Grainge starting on October 1, Variety reports even more staff departures are likely.
The UPS reference is a shout-out to The Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic “Flava In Ya Ear (Remix)” lyrics, where he suggested rival MCs should consider a day job delivering packages. It’s also a clever move on Nicki’s part.
Her Heavy On It imprint, in partnership with her longtime label Republic Records—which also faced layoffs this year—shows that Nicki is clearly trying to shift momentum in her favor.
Nicki has already started working on her upcoming album, “Pink Friday 3,” and having extra hands could boost her next steps.
That is, if any former Atlantic employees are ready to call her “boss.”
