Woman Opens Fire In Connecticut Police Department
By Extra-Ordinary Women
A woman is now in custody following an incident in which she opened fire in the lobby of a Connecticut police department, leading to an exchange of gunfire with an officer.
The individual involved has been identified as 51-year-old Suzanne Laprise. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. on Thursday night when Laprise entered the Bristol Police Department’s lobby. She discharged multiple rounds into the window of the front desk in the lobby, which was unoccupied at the time. Fortunately, the bullets did not penetrate the bullet-resistant glass.
Upon hearing the gunfire, police officers swiftly responded and attempted to engage in negotiation with Laprise. However, she continued firing her weapon, targeting the officers. In response, an officer returned fire, but once again, the bullets were thwarted by the bullet-resistant glass.
Laprise eventually placed her firearm down, allowing officers to deploy a Taser and take her into custody. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation, where she did not sustain any significant injuries. On Friday, Laprise was released from the hospital and taken into police custody.
There have been no reports of injuries among the police officers involved.
Laprise now faces multiple charges, including criminal attempt at murder with special circumstances, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, illegal possession of firearms under the influence of drugs or alcohol, violation of pistol permit requirements, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and breach of peace.
Currently, Laprise is being held on a $3 million bond, and police have announced her scheduled arraignment at New Britain Superior Court later in the day.
The police department took to Facebook to inform the public that the lobby would be closed for walk-in complaints on Friday, allowing for necessary repairs and maintenance to be carried out.
