R&B singer Summer Walker has spoken out on the matter following criticism of a video showing her daughter hitting her during a birthday party

Summer Walker surprised her fans by announcing the birth of her twins in January, adding to her family of three. Recently, she celebrated her eldest child’s second birthday with a party where her daughter, affectionately called Bubbles, was captured hitting and pulling her mother’s hair in a video shared on The Shade Room’s Instagram story.

The video drew criticism from some online commenters who assumed that the singer wasn’t disciplining her daughter effectively because of the hitting. Walker had previously shared a similar video where her daughter hit her while they sang “Wade in the Water” with a friend, resurfacing after the party. Responding to the negative comments, the singer explained that Bubbles doesn’t like loud noises and that the hitting only started when the guests sang loudly.

Walker’s explanation sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and provides more context to the video. Nevertheless, the incident highlights the challenges of parenting and disciplining young children, particularly in a public setting. As a public figure, Walker’s parenting decisions are under greater scrutiny, which can sometimes result in online criticism and judgement.

Some commenters also suggested that Summer Walker’s daughter might have sensory issues or be on the autism spectrum since hitting in response to loud noises is a common reaction among some children with such conditions. Sensory processing disorder, which affects about 15% of children in the U.S., can cause heightened sensitivity to light, sound, and touch. Additionally, some children on the autism spectrum can be sensitive to noise, crowds, and other sensory experiences. Other commenters, however, attributed Bubbles’ behavior to a lack of discipline.

On the other hand, some people argued that it’s not fair to jump to conclusions about Bubbles’ behavior and that she could just be reacting like any other typical two-year-old.

Summer Walker’s daughter with ex-boyfriend and producer London On Da Track turned two years old recently, while the singer also welcomed twins with ex-boyfriend and rapper Larry or LVRD Pharoh in March 2021. The couple split up shortly before the birth of the twins, and their names have not been disclosed publicly.

People been trying to be in my business bad lately,” she began. “Idk why y’all need updates on my life lol like go touch grass, but I’ve decided to be single.”

She added, “It’s no hard feelings. Larry is an amazing father, and there are just certain things I won’t tolerate, but we’re super duper happy to have all our children, and we’re just living life. He’s present for every swim class, every photoshoot, every doctor’s appointment, and every baby event. And no, I’m not removing my face tattoo. I still have hella love for him.”

Summer Walker spoke about the challenges and rewards of motherhood in an interview with ESSENCE for the June 2022 digital issue. She acknowledged that being a parent is stressful and requires a lot of sacrifices, making her question whether it’s worth it at times. However, she also shared that her children’s smiles make it all worthwhile.
